Language Rights

Promoting equal access to services in all three languages across Sri Lanka.

Overview

Language Rights in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka's Constitution recognizes Sinhala and Tamil as official languages and English as a link language, yet minority language speakers still face barriers to public services, justice, and government information.

CEJ raises awareness on language rights as a fundamental human right, documents discrimination, and advocates for trilingual public services.

CEJ emphasizes the intersection of language rights with women's rights, recognizing how Tamil-speaking women may be marginalized both by gender and language.
